Top ten tuesday #3

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

This weeks theme is the Top Ten most annoying characters.

  1. Sydney Sage (from Bloodlines): Okay, seriously. She like and Adrian in Golden Lily and it she was and my God she is so stupid and like… (I apologize for the incoherence)
  2. Aspen (from the Selection): I just hate his character as a whole. He’s mean and yet America still likes him, and then he breaks up with her just to come in at the end and kiss her and mess up her relationship with Maxon?
  3. Cecily (from the Chemical Garden trilogy): Need I explain myself? She got Jenna killed.
  4. Zoe Redbird (from HoN): because she's a complete ho-bag, and why do I want to read about character who has multiple boyfriends or kissing buddies at any given time?
  5. …uh. I might come up with some more later.

Cover Characteristic #3

Cover Characteristic is a new meme hosted by Sugar & Snark. Each week they will post a characteristic and we'll choose 5 of our favorite cover’s with that characteristic.

This week’s characteristic is Moon. Here are my picks:

Claire de Lune by Christine Johnson: I read this book a while ago. Don’t much remember what happened, though…

Leopard Moon by Jeanette Battista: This book popped up on my radar about… oh, three to five-ish months ago. But, you’ll notice that’s it, like, the SAME as Fallen by Lauren Kate. I read that one cuz the cover caught my eye, and this one caught my eye, too, so I suppose it’s doing it’s job.

Echo by Alicia Wright Brewster: I like this one cuz you don’t immediately think MOON when you look at it, but one of those has to be a moon, since it’s some sort of eclipse.

Darkstar by Carol J. Hansen: I was trying to think of more books with moons on the cover and resorted to going through a list on goodreads. This is what I found.

And my favorite book with a moon on the cover is… Sweep Volume 4 by Cate Tiernan!
Simple but pretty, I love it.

Book spine poem challenge for 2013 TBR challenge

Wow, I feel like I’ve posted on my blog more times in the last five days then I did in all of December.
Anyways, here’s my book spine poem:

Across the Universe,
A Touch Mortal
Crossed
The Forest of Hands and Teeth.
Under the Never Sky
Darkness Falls
Silence.

Btw, it’s on my bed, so the background is sucky. I’m not an organized or clean person.

Top ten tuesday #2

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s theme is Top Ten settings I’d like to see more of (or at all)

  1. Colorado!!!!! Cuz I live here, and it’s really cold in the winter and really hot in the summer, and the only book I’ve read that set here is the Nightshade trilogy by Andrea Cremer.
  2. Dystopias with zombies: This isn’t an actual SETTING, per se, but it’s something I’d like to see more of.
  3. Asia. YA in Asia. AMERICAN YA in Asia. Please.
  4. …and I can’t think of any more.
  5. Other Planets. No, spaceships do not count as other planets. Nor do alternate earth-planes.
  6. …and I can’t think of any more. I’m serious this time.

READING SLUMP?!? ME?!?

So, I’m not sure how well y’all know me, but if you know me at all, you know I usually read a book in a day. So, when, just a short while ago, it took me FOUR DAYS to read Finale, the final book in the Hush, Hush series, I was understandably confused. And then, after finishing Finale, I started Beautiful Creatures. That one took me SIX DAYS. Since school started on the same da I started reading it, I could have easily blamed my slow reading on school. But that didn’t explain why it took me so long to read Finale. Eventually, I was left with only one explanation: I must be in a reading slump.
Having never been in a reading slump, it was terrifying and traumatizing. But, because I have an honor code, I stalwartly soldiered through Beautiful Creatures. I finished early in the morning, and I’m fairly certain that the last fifty of so pages cured me of my reading slump. But, maybe it was just because I finished it.
Anyways, I’m delighted to say that I am most definitely out of my reading slump now, as I just finished TEAM HUMAN in six hours. It was a deliciously funny yet serious read. I loved it.
Anyways, I just wanted to share with you about the experience of my first reading slump.
Here’s hoping it’s the last!

Cover Characteristic #2

Cover Characteristic is a new meme hosted by Sugar & Snark. Each week they will post a characteristic and we'll choose 5 of our favorite cover’s with that characteristic.

This week’s characteristic is angel wings. Here are my Faves:

Halo by Alexandra Adornetto: Pretty cover, but I don’t like that book very much.

In the Arms of Stone Angels by Jordan Dane: I saw this on goodreads two days ago. I’m not kidding. And I’m planning on buying it with one of the giftcards I still have left over from Christmas.

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick: Well, there’s no way I could do this and NOT include Hush, Hush. Come on.

Forbidden by Syrie James and Ryan M. James: I haven’t read this one yet, but it’s been on my radar for a while now, and I have been told it’s amazing. plus, pretty cover!

Mercy by Rebecca Lim: Simply because I feel this is an amazing book, and the wings on the cover are there but not there and it’s very cool.

Cover Characteristic #1

Cover Characteristic is a new meme hosted by Sugar & Snark. Each week they will post a characteristic and we'll choose 5 of our favorite cover’s with that characteristic.

I think I may be late doing this. My bad. But I really want to do this one, cuz it’s red dresses, and have some really favorite covers with red dresses, so I’m doing it anyway!

The Elite by Kiera Cass: I really actually don’t like this cover. I can’t explain what about it I don’t like, just that I don’t like it.

Reached by Ally Condie: I don’t like this one so much either, really. I like it better than the Elite, though.

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins: I LIKE this one. I want her dress. (Kaiden looks kinda like a creeper though, doesn’t he?)

Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers: Now, I LOVE this one. It all works so well, the dress and the crossbow and she looks so TOUGH. I love it.

But my favorite is… Everneath by Brodi Ashton: I love how it’s all dissolving into smoke and it just looks REALLY cool.

Liebster Blog Award

Okay, so I have been nominated for the Liebster Blog Award. Cool, huh? I’m not sure why…
But I’m going to go with it.
Anyways, there seem to be some rules for getting nominated. The rules are these:
1. Thank your Liebster Award presenter and link back to them in your own post.
2. Answer the 11 questions given to you by your presenter, state 11 random facts about yourself and create 11 questions for your nominees.
3. Present the Liebster Award to 11 bloggers who you think deserve the award with under 200 followers and leave a comment on their blog telling them that you nominated them.
4. Copy and Paste the award on your blog

So, I’m going to thank Estefania from Bookaholic Corner for nominating me for this. Here is her post: http://bookaholiccorner.blogspot.com/2013/01/i-want-to-thank-melanie-from.html

Here are my answers to the questions she asked me:
1.      What was the book that got you to fall in love with reading?
Um… I’m not sure that question has an answer. I’ve always loved reading. The first book I ever remember reading was one of those five steps to reading books. I’m pretty sure it was step 2 or 3 and was about Barbie going on a spy mission or something like that.
2.      What's a book you decided to read by judging it's cover?
Fallen by Lauren Kate. The cover was amazing, and that was the reason I bought it.
3.      What 's a book that you read, but did not like?
I don’t often NOT like books… but Need by Carrie Jones
4.      What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who won’t hear others’ (but especially my) opinions.
5.      Have any funny jokes you wanna share?
Knock, knock
Who’s there?
The doctor.
Doctor Who?
6.      What other hobbies do you have, other than reading?
Listening to music. Watching TV. Writing my own stories.
7.      What book are you currently reading?
Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
8.      What is your favorite book?
You can’t ask me this question! Asking me this question is like asking me to choose a favorite puppy out of all the puppies in the world!
9.      If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
France. Or Belgium (for the chocolate).
10.  What have you always wanted to do in your life, but haven't done yet?
Publish a book of my own. And I’m working on it, I swear!
11.  Why did you decide to start a blog?
Because I wanted to meet other people who love the same things I do. Books and European female-fronted gothic rock bands.

11 random facts about me:
1. I am addicted to goldfish.
2. Even though I’m in college now, I wish I was still in high school.
3. I can speak about five words in Korean
4. I know how to ask where the toilet is in Japanese
5. I took French for five years and can’t only remember about ten things, and only when I think REALLY hard.
6. I have a rare copper disorder.
7. I know (as in have actually net this person in REAL LIFE, not on the internet) someone from Romania.
8. I had a hamster. He lived for two years and nine months, which is REALLY old for a hamster.
9. I love Doctor Who, but can’t watch it often because everyone in my family hates it.
10. When I was really little and every other girl wanted to grow up ad be a princess, I wanted to grow up and be an assassin. (Now, before you make that face, I thought it would be cool. I STILL think assassins are cool, I’m just not cut out to be one.)
11. I enjoy writing stories in which my characters have traumatic pasts. Like, they watched their parents die. That’s been the most popular one for my past several stories.

Now I haven't been blogging for very long… about four months. I only starting following and looking at OTHER peoples bogs about two months, so finding 11 people (who Haven’t already been nominated AND have under 200 followers) took some doing, but here it is:
((And with some of them, I couldn’t figure out how to tell if they have less than 200 followers, so if any of them/you have over 200 followers, forgive me)

And Goldie at http://mybookmusings.blogspot.com

My questions for them are:

1. What is your favorite food?

2. What is your favorite band?

3. If you can’t answer that question because you have too many, then what is your favorite genre of music?

4. Have you ever dog-eared a book in your life? Be honest, now.

5. Have you ever really HATED someone? As in, not that person annoys me, but I REALLY hate that person?

6. Peanut butter: Do you like crunchy or creamy better? (if you’re allergic, please don’t be offended by this question)

7. Has there ever been a book you didn’t want to read or didn’t think about reading but then you saw the movie and decided to read it? If so, which book&movie?

8. Which do you prefer: Barnes and Nobe.com or Amazon.com?

9. How long have you been reading? Since High School, Middle School, or before you can remember (or other specified time frame)?

10. Do you have a favorite TV show or Movie?

11. The Vampire Academy (by Richelle Mead): Dimitri or Adrian?

To end this post, I just have a random comment: does this whole idea of the Liebster Blog Award seem self-perpetuating to anyone else? I mean, every person who’s nominated has to nominate 11 people with less than 200 followers… what if we run out of bloggers with less than 200 followers? What then?
Just my mind musing. Just ignore it.

Wow, I totally just realized I forgot to copy and paste the award onto my blog post. Here it is:

Top Ten Tuesday: 2013 Debuts I'm Looking Forward too

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

Okay, this is the first time I've done Top Ten Tuesday, but this is a good one.

For whatever reason, those pictures aren’t in the order I wanted them in. (Yes, my list of most anticipated 2013 debuts is in a certain order)
  1. Level 2 by Lenore Applehans, Jan 15th 2013
When I first saw the cover of this book, I thought she was swinging a sword, which immediately made me want to read it. Upon closer inspection, I don’t think she has a sword, but the cover is still so compelling.
  1. Touch of Death by Kelly Hashaway, Jan 15th, 2013
I just think this looks like a super-cool book.
  1.  My Name is Rapunzel by KC Hilton, ?????, 2013
Look at the cover. Somehow, she looks sad and badass at the same time. Look at the title. Isn’t that cool? Finally, the description on goodreads: Fairy tales are for children. My name is Rapunzel and I will tell you my story. I will tell you the truth. Despite being only thee sentence, doesn’t that make you just want to READ this?
  1. PODs by Michelle K. Pickett, June 4th, 2013
The premise of this one sounds really interesting.
  1. Echo by Alicia Wright Brewster, April 4th, 2013
Look at the cover. She looks so badass.
  1. Reaper by L.S. Murphy, Jan 7th, 2013
The description and the cover makes me think that this will be a really cute, fun read.
  1. Acid by Emma Pass, April 15th, 2013
OMG, this one just sounds so cool!
  1. Ravens by Kaylie Austen, Feb 15th, 2013
This one’s premise just sounds so cool and interesting, and vampire-y. (and I love vampires)
  1. Splintered by A.G. Howard, Jan 1st, 2013
So, I have a friend. She is completely obsessed with Alice in Wonderland. Alice in Wonderland (the Disney, cartoon movie especially, but other adaption’s as well) gives me nightmares. Because I like to torture myself and my own obsessions aren’t enough for me, I read and watch all things related to Alice in Wonderland and then tell my friend what I thought about them.
  1. Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger, March 5th, 2013
I had a comment for this one, but I forgot it.

13 Things I'm Going to Do in 2013

2012 was the year that the world was allegedly going to end. It didn’t and I’m glad, but life is short. Who knows how long you or I or anything is going to be around? Truth is, it could all end any time, abruptly.
I’ve never been big into New Years Resolutions, but I’m trying it this year, and hopefully anyone who’s reading my blog will keep me on track.

  1. Don’t get fatter. My weight usually wavers between 135 and 145 pounds. So I’m usually only about 10 to 20 pounds overweight. I’d really like to NOT get any Fatter.
  2. Lose weight. If I could get the point where my weight is wavering between 125 and 135, I’d be golden.
  3. Polish a finished manuscript. Last year during the summer months, I wrote a story. It’s a good story, and I sent it to three people for critique. Two of those people have been taking their sweet time getting back to me with their thoughts, and I’m going to nag them until they get back at me, and then send it to two more people and edit it throughout this process.
  4. Once my manuscript is polished, query at least one agent. I’m never going to get published if I don’t do this, so why not start now?
  5. Break up with my current critique partner. If I’m being really honest, she hasn’t been critiquing my stories well (at all) for the past two years. It’s time to end things and find someone who will ask questions and give insights about my stories.
  6. Find a new critique partner. Someone who will put up with my craziness, doesn’t mind getting stories chapter by chapter, sometimes weeks in between chapters, and will respond to all my emails within a week of my sending them.
  7. Have my first kiss. How can I expect to write believable kissing scenes when I’ve ever actually experienced the real thing? And no, my experience in the third grade DOESN’T count.
  8. Get a boyfriend. Why stop at kissing? I want the whole experience. I'm eighteen, for gods’ sakes, and I have never had a boyfriend. Because no one’s ever asked me out. Maybe I outta take the initiative and make the first move. Hey, I did it that one time in the third grade.
  9. Cut my hair (to shoulder length). My hair has not been shorter than shoulder length since it grew past my shoulders. When I was younger, (like, seven) I had two unfortunate experiences in which I got a haircut from my brother and exchanged haircuts with my cousin. My mom was mad at me when brother to cut my hair, and when my cousin and I exchanged haircuts, both my AND my cousins’ mom were mad at me (It was my idea both times). And then I saw the Disney movie Pocahontas and decided I wanted my hair to be as long as hers before I cut it again. If I’m being completely honest with myself, it’s been that long for three years. I need a change.
  10. Get a job. I want money. I think that’s explanation enough.
  11. Go to comic-con. This really probably isn’t going to happen, unless I decide to settle for the local comic-con as opposed to the San Diego one.
  12. Get my driver’s license. I got my permit in December and have driven on the road once since then. I was scared out of my mind. I need to get myself together, because I can’t be having people, be it my parents, brother or friends, chauffer me around for the rest of my life.
  13. Do something amazing. I know this isn’t really specific, but it’s not supposed to be. I just hope that at some point this year, I get a chance to do something spur-of-the-moment, that is amazing. Helpful, nice, cool. Maybe I’ll win a writing contest, or get a book deal (Yeah, right). Maybe I’ll take some homeless guy out for dinner, donate all my clothes to charity. Convince my parents to let me go on a road trip with my friends. I just want to do something AMAZING.
